Want to Thrive? You Might Be Solving the Wrong Problem.

Unleashed: The Thriving Life Series – Entry # 2

Most people want the same things:to feel better, do better, and be better.

And usually—they want it fast.

After all, we only get one pass at life. Spending our days circling the harbour like a rudderless ship doesn’t just feel frustrating… it feels like a waste of something deeply important.

So why do so many people, with the right intentions, still struggle to create meaningful change?

The Treadmill Trap

You’ve seen this before.

Someone gets a wake-up call about their health. They’re motivated. They take action. They buy a treadmill.

For a few weeks—maybe even a month—they use it.

Then slowly, quietly… it becomes the world’s most expensive clothes hanger.

So what happened?

There are a lot of possible answers. But one of the most common—and most overlooked—is this: They were solving the wrong problem.

I Learned This the Hard Way

For three consecutive years, I pushed myself through incredibly demanding endurance events.

On the surface, my mission was clear: raise funds for children’s charities.

But underneath that?

I was trying to outrun something.

A declining mental state. An internal struggle tied to a major life transition.Something I didn’t fully understand at the time.

Year after year, I showed up. I pushed through the miles. I crossed finish lines.

And each time, when it was all over… I felt it again.

That same restlessness. That same quiet dissatisfaction. That same sense that something wasn’t right.

The effort was real. The achievements were meaningful.

But the problem I was trying to solve? It wasn’t the right one.

Why We Stay Stuck

Most people assume progress is about effort.

Work harder. Push more. Stay disciplined.

But here’s the truth:

Working harder on the wrong problem doesn’t create progress- it creates frustration.

That’s why so many well-intentioned changes don’t last.

It’s not a lack of motivation. It’s not a lack of tools.

It’s a lack of clarity.

What Actually Works

If you want to build a thriving life, you need a different approach.

Not more action—at least not right away.

You need better insight.

A simple way to think about it:

  • Understand what’s really going on.

Look beneath the surface. What’s the actual challenge?

  • Identify the real problem.

Not the obvious one—the true barrier.

  • Then choose a solution.

Only after you’re clear on what you’re solving.

Because clarity changes everything.

A Better Way to Look at It

Let’s go back to the treadmill.

What if the real issue wasn’t access to exercise or lack of equipment?

What if it was a belief or limiting thought pattern?

A quiet, persistent thought pattern like:

  • “I won’t stick with this”

  • “I’ve never been consistent”

  • “I’m just not that kind of person”

  • "Do I really want to do this?"

If that’s the real problem, then no piece of equipment—no matter how advanced—will fix it.

Because the moment motivation fades… the pattern returns.

Until the underlying issue is addressed, every solution will eventually fail.

Start Here

Before you take your next big step, pause.

Ask yourself:

“What problem am I really trying to solve?”

Then go deeper:

  • What’s driving this?

  • What’s underneath the surface?

  • What keeps showing up again and again?

Spend time here.

Because when you solve the right problem, everything changes:

  • Your actions become more effective

  • Your progress becomes more consistent

  • Your results actually last

The Goal Isn’t to Push Harder

It’s to move forward with:

  • clarity

  • purpose

  • intention

Because the goal isn’t just to improve.

It’s to thrive.

Let’s Talk
